So many of us, either as a friend or a patient/client/family member, have had the good fortune to have experienced the healing hands, wise heart and witty humor of our resident artisan-scholar, Randy. In March, Randy was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer. Clarity about the status of metastasis and the prognosis will not be clear until the post-surgery biopsy of lymph nodes and the tumor itself have been performed. Randy’s surgery is scheduled for June 20th at 2pm. He will be convalescing at home for 3-4 weeks post-surgery. Should several lymph nodes test positive, Randy will also need to pursue 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy.

If you’re reading this, you know Randy and know that he is a serious scholar. He has delved into the conventional medical science of his diagnosis while also listening to his inner voice of wisdom. He has considered all options and feels as prepared as he can be as he moves toward this very serious and delicate surgery.

For the healer to reach out for love, prayers, and compassion requires courage to be vulnerable. This is what Randy is doing by engaging the Go-fund-Me pathway to support his already, and soon to be exponentially higher, medical costs.The co-insurance for his care to date and for this pending surgery is substantial. Randy has and will continue to pursue other out-of-pocket alternative therapies as he recovers and moves forward into the unknown. He doesn’t know what the total costs will be, but a conservative estimate is $50,000 – $70,000. Insurance will step in on a percentage of the western-based care, but anything else will fall to Randy.
