Mom Needs Help

I’m Ted Rezonov, a working student whose mother needs a hand through this challenging time. My mother’s name is Natalie Rezonov, and she’s an amazing person and an artist. Mom is the go-to woman in our family. She is brilliant, hard-working and kind. And she has a wicked sense of humor!

She could have gone to the doctor a little sooner, but she was busy taking care of our family. Three weeks ago Mom was admitted into emergency surgery and ovarian cancer was found all over. It’s hard to write this. I love her so much. I am a stoic man, and asking for help is truly hard. But we need your help. We’ve helped our neighbors through this site in the past, but we never thought we’d need to ask the community to rally for us. In surgery, there was more involved than expected—she was concealing her pain more than they realized. Mom’s lung, intestine and reproductive organs were repaired or removed. The amazing doctors told us that they just took out everything that she didn’t need. Well, that’s that!  Mom joked that she was relieved that her appendix was removed-so she didn’t have to worry about that!  Not too funny a joke, while her body is allergic to most if not all pain medications. This is an extremely painful surgery, it will be months before she can walk around as usual.  She has been living life to its fullest, and being brought to a halt by cancer is really rude.  She needs to be occupied.

It will be several months of recovery and chemotherapy before she can even consider getting back to work. This is deeply concerning to her…  

Unable to work and paint, Mom continues to draw pretty flowers, she can express herself, and give you a gift at the same time. And, she accomplishes her desire to share her art with you. There’s so much for her to share-I know that you will be captivated.

What are we asking for?

While insurance covers most of the medical costs, it certainly does not cover lost wages, pay the rent or other bills. Mom has always been frugal with her money, but this will wipe her out.  There goes her savings. I am dreaming to publish her art book hoping for it to be the beginning of her new career. Success is tangible- she has had success in the art world as a part-timer, but this is the next chapter. She can do this while she’s recovering, fighting or stuck in bed. As a lifelong artist, she worked in every medium I can imagine. Charcoal, stained-glass, oil or pencils: she can take it and make it meaningful and beautiful or tragic.

Art is meant to be a release or expression of the artist, and as the viewer, we are meant to feel, learn, or question.  Mom’s art does these things. Some pieces are simply intended to be pretty-a reminder of all the beauty in our world. Other pieces are dark expressions of the tragedies she has seen, and tried to repair. Either way, Mom’s art makes us feel something. She has lived an extraordinary life, and she’s not done yet.
