Help Save Mochi: Urgent Medical Care Needed

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for assistance with saving my cat Mochi. Today, we faced a terrifying situation when we noticed that Mochi was in severe pain. He was yelping, flinching, vomiting, and trying to isolate himself. It was clear that something was very wrong, so we rushed him to the emergency vet.

After a few hours of bloodwork and an ultrasound, we received the news: Mochi has a swollen, bloody bladder and a urinary blockage. He needs to stay at the vet for two nights and undergo several much-needed procedures, including:

  • X-rays
  • Antibiotics
  • IV fluids
  • Insertion of a catheter

This unexpected medical emergency has come at a time when we are already struggling financially. The snowstorm that took place about a month ago prevented us from working for a week, as well as damaged our vehicle. We are still trying to recover from that setback. The vet bill is substantial, and we must pay it before we can bring Mochi home. Unfortunately, we only have two days to come up with the funding for the vet.

We are humbly asking for your support during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us cover Mochi's medical expenses and ensure he receives the care he desperately needs.

Mochi is not just a pet; he is a cherished member of our family, and we are heartbroken at the thought of him suffering. Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to us and to Mochi.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Please share this with anyone who might be able to help. Together, we can give Mochi the chance to recover and come back home where he belongs.

With gratitude,

Janeva & Anthony

Update 3/14/2025

The vet called to let us know that after doing a contrast to check Mochi’s urine, they found that his bladder is ruptured and the urine is leaking into his abdomen. They’re going to be doing surgery today to try and fix his bladder as well as pump the fluid from his abdomen. They are estimating an additional $1,000 for the surgery costs (this includes the additional day needed for the hospital stay).

Even if you’re not able to donate, please share this as much as possible. We need all of the help we can get. The thought of losing Mochi is terrifying and we want to make sure he gets the care he needs so he can return home.

Update 3/15/2025

Mochi’s surgery went well! He’s currently being monitored at the vet to make sure he can still eat and drink on his own. We’re not out of the woods just yet, however things look very optimistic in regards to his recovery. He will be at the vet for a couple more days for the monitoring. I will try to keep everyone updated on when we’re able to bring him home. We GREATLY appreciate all of the support we have been getting. This means a LOT to us.

I have attached images of the estimated costs for everything so that our supporters have transparency on all of the costs associated with the treatments and procedures Mochi is undergoing.

Update 3/18/2025

Mochi has a little more fluid in his abdomen at this time. The doctor is going to do another contrast at some point today to try and identify where the fluid is coming from. We’re hoping it’s not his bladder again since they’ve already patched up his perforation and drained the initial fluid that leaked into his abdomen. Fingers crossed that it’s not his bladder and it’s just his abdomen being a little reactive from everything else that has taken place.

We’re hoping he’ll be well enough to come home before the week is over. We miss him and his fur siblings miss him. I’ll try to provide updates as I get them. This whole situation is very mentally and emotionally exhausting for us. We understand the staff at the veterinarian hospital is doing their best to treat him and we appreciate EVERYTHING they’ve done so far and continue to do. Nonetheless, this whole situation is a LOT to handle and all we can do is just hope for the best and visit him daily hoping that’ll give him some extra strength and motivation to keep getting better.

Update 3/19/2025

Mochi ended up needing another surgery. As his bladder started to become less inflamed, another perforation was found. This was the cause of more fluid getting into his abdomen.

Update 3/21/2025

He did well in surgery and he is currently recovering. The past week has been a very mentally and emotionally challenging period of time but we’re very happy that he’s doing well and he’ll be able to live a normal life. The vet bill is slightly under $4k due to the second surgery needed, so we will be leaving the gofundme up. Thank you again to everyone who has assisted us whether it be through donations or sharing the post. We’re forever grateful for everyone that has supported Mochi. We are also super grateful for the veterinarian staff that took good care of him that entire time!
