Baby Josiah Orange was born February 2022 with Cloacal exstrophy, also known as OEIS syndrome, which occurs when a portion of the large intestine lies outside of the body, and on either side of it — and connected to it — are the two halves of the bladder. Cloacal exstrophy (OEIS syndrome) is a very rare birth defect, affecting 1 in every 250,000 births and only 2 babies were born in the United States with it in 2022. Josiah was born with only one leg and with several organs split in two. Josiah has been in Lebonheur Children's Hospital since birth. He has never been outside, never eaten through his mouth, and never had milk or solid food. Josiah will need additional surgeries to be able to come home and be able to use a wheelchair.
