My name is Brandy Moss.

Seven years ago I met my husband, John Heeckt, (Husband) in a text based game called, Gemstone IV. Our characters, Alystaeria and Vaelimirr had many adventures together, fell madly in love and were soon married.

Not long after that, Husband and I too fell madly in love. He moved from Florida to South Carolina to be with me and we were hand-fasted under Isaqueena Falls. Our marriage license was signed at one of our favorite places, Boardwalk. It is a local board game store.

It was a true story book romance and like with any romance, there was much talk of adventure. We dreamed of travel and shenanigans, similar to the adventures Aly and Vael used to get into.

But like most, our fantasies of derring do soon faded into the necessity of adult life and slipped to the backs of our mind.

In late February of this year, Husband was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. The cancer has spread to his brain and he has been given an average life expectancy of two to four years.

While he was in the hospital, we both decided that whether he lived for two more days or ten more years, we would both rather live as the adventuresome Aly and Vael. In our minds, there was not even a point in coming home from the hospital if we weren’t coming home to live.

So, we have decided that once his first chemo and radiation treatments are concluded, we are going to go on the road. We want to purchase a camper and spend the rest of his days traveling.

We want to attend Burning Man, peer over the edge of the grand canyon and stand in awe at the Aurora Borealis. And we want to do these things hand in hand. Together. Before it is no longer an option.

But with the hospital debts and working 40 hour a week jobs, it is all but an impossibility. So we have come here seeking help.

In addition to Cancer, Husband also has Psoriasis. Since his chemo treatments, the Psoriasis has spread all over his body and has consumed his hands. They look like someone dipped them in acid. It has never been this severe.  The only ointment that works to treat the symptoms costs over $100 per tube. We can’t afford that under normal circumstances.

Husband is a Wal-Mart Department Manager. But right now, he can’t do the job. Between his hands, the treatments and the stress, it is simply too much for him. My job is not enough to make ends meet. All of our savings have gone toward keeping us afloat while he has been out of work and soon, if there is not a change, we will lose our house and everything else we own.

Our current plan is to sell our home and purchase a C class RV with which to travel. We will both use online and local work to keep cash flowing in. We are both minimalists anyway and look forward to the challenges this new life will present.

Going on the road would save us a lot of money. With the money raised here, we hope to be able to purchase the RV outright, pay off most if not all of his hospital bills and have a small nest egg to build off of.

This is our dream and being able to travel together in a camper would make his final days bright and free. As much as it pains me to ask for help, this is the only way we will be able to make this happen.

Without your help, his medical bills will continue to grow, we will lose the house and our car and we will not have the money to rent another place and I will be unable to care for him the way he needs as the cancer takes its course.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated by us both and we will always seek to pay your kindness forward anyway we can. I do not have a very large social media presence, but I am quite candid. If you have any questions, please comment below and I will answer as fully as possible.
