The Mighty Hughs Benefit Series
Donation protected
The Mighty Hughs Foundation is a charitable foundation made up of some of the west coast's finest musicians, whose mission is to provide therapeutic music programs to the special needs community.
On April 10th at Vancouver's Fairview Pub, the Mighty Hughs Foundation will be hosting a celebrity filled fundraiser in support of these programs.
The Mighty Hughs include members, past and present, of Streetheart, BTO, Cease and Desist, Bif Naked, Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, Bang!, DOA, The Paul Rodgers Band, and The R&B Allstars, amongst a host of others.
Modelled on the highly successful Namaste Music Program in Victoria that brings over 150 people with developmental disabilities together every week, The Mighty Hughs Foundation's Music Programs are unique in that the musicians play backup for those who want to sing and play.
Building self-esteem, encouraging freedom of expression, positive reinforcement, and assisting in socialization skills are four of the goals of our program.
Funds will be utilized to provide locations for the programs, a modest stipend for the musicians, and in the near future, one-on-one programs for those who have difficulty with public situations.
Jeff Neill, of the legendary Canadian band Streetheart and co-chair of the MHF, has this to say about the foundation: "As part of the Mighty Hughs Foundation, I have been given the great opportunity to be able to give back to the community and, especially those with special needs, the gift of music, friendship, and support. I am grateful to be a part of such a talented and dynamic group of individuals, and I know that the good work that the MHF provides for will continue to reach out and help those who need it most within our community."
Chris Trygg, founder and co-chair of the Mighty Hughs Foundation, has "...witnessed firsthand the effect these music programs have had on my own daughter in her socialization skills, ability to express herself, and in the forging of lasting friendships. A place where those with special needs can freely express themselves and show joy in any way they wish while experiencing the therapeutic value of music is something that should be available to all."
The literally hundreds of thousands of people that these programs have the potential to positively effect drives the Mighty Hughs Foundation towards our eventual goal of creating Therapeutic Music Programs across Canada.
On behalf of all those who will be positively affected by your kind and generous contribution, the Mighty Hughs Foundation thanks you and hopes to see you at one of our benefit concert series shows very soon!
