Click on video above to watch snapshots from Garfunkle’s last chapter of life with Mandi and Victor.
Victor and Mandi adopted Garfunkle on December 12th 2018. He was an older, overweight dog with a slew of health problems, but when they saw his face they knew that he was the one. Garfunkle got to live like a king and Mandi and Victor were the best parents to him. Following is the story about how Garfunkle passed away and why I decided to start this GoFundMe for them. Thank you in advance for anything you can give to help them wrap their heads around losing their beloved dog and their financial load that this placed on them.
Garf started feeling sick on 1/15 and threw up blood and was lethargic and my sister and her boyfriend took him to the ER. The vets werent sure what was wrong but gave him medicine and he started feeling better so they took him home. He was doing okay until Thursday night but then started showing the symptoms again.
They took him in and they did all of the tests and wanted to hospitalize him for the night. The next morning a specialist came in to do an ultrasound and found something in his stomach that he believed was causing internal bleeding.
My sister and Victor decided to try to give him the best chance that they could and went ahead with a blood transfusion so that he could go through with the surgery. While in surgery the doctor found that it was a large bleeding cancerous mass. He debulked what he could to give Garf the best chance. He was so brave and strong and made it through surgery and the crucial 3 hours after surgery. Victor and Mandi were at the hospital from 5pm - 5am. We were all so confident and positive. He was holding on and doing well.
That evening 1/18, they were home getting some rest before they went back to the hospital to say goodnight to him. Victor and Mandi were about to leave and the doctor called to tell them that he had stopped breathing.
Mandi and Victor, our family and anyone who knew Garf is heartbroken. Not only did Victor and Mandi do everything they could to save their boy medically, they spent everything financially too. I hope that we can ease the burden of the finances while they continue to grieve for their baby.
