Andreas road to recovery

As many of you know my sister Andrea was involved in a horrible car accident. The accident happened while she was driving through Colorado on her way back to Kansas City. 

Andrea and her dog Chewy were ejected out of a rolling car down  a 400 ft mountain road. 

Andrea was life flighted (taken by helicopter) to a level one Trauma center were she has been receiving treatment. 

Andrea is currently in the intensive care unit. 

Her road to recovery is long but we are so thankful Andrea and Chewy are still with us. 

Here is a list of her Injuries.

Her skull has a fracture, two broken ribs 9 and 10.

A fractured hip on one side that requires surgery.

A fractured femur on the other side that requires surgery.

Both of her legs are on traction, the  orthopedic team will do surgery to repair the fractures and stabilize them.

Vértebra T-10, L-1, L-3, L-4 had fractures on the transverse process. A Neck fracture on the C7 vértebra that will require surgery. 

A grade two liver laceration. 

Andrea has a pulmonary contusion and a pneumothorax on her right lung.

One lung is collapsed.

Andrea is currently on oxygen and has received blood transfusions. 

Andrea had an inferior vena cava filter placed, to reduce the risk of a blood clot going to her lungs & heart.

Chewy (her dog) had to spend the night with the veterinarian.

He has a pneumopericardium, this  means air leaked into the sac around his heart. This is impending his heart’s ability to contract correctly. 

He also has bruising around the tissue of his right eye. 

Chewy chipped his upper canine. The tooth might need to be smoothed  out later after his heart recovers. 

He has a small laceration on his lip. On Sunday he had some bloody stools. 

Although chewy had all these injuries he stayed the night with the veterinarian at his house and he is doing well. 

Thank you so much to the people that took care of him. 

We picked him up but he will take his time to recover.

Our family has had so many unexpected expenses. 

Having to find several last minute flights to Colorado, hotel cost, and a car rental, so we can go be with  Andrea at the hospital.

Chewy’s vet bill, and many other expenses keep coming.

Dylan (Andrea's Husband) is stationed in CA on active duty in the military. He will be with us this week but has to return on Sunday. 

Andrea will require care and complete assistance from someone on her road to recovery. 

Andrea’s mother Cha Cha will take full care of her until she recovers. 

Andrea’s mother is a widow and has three jobs that she has put on hold in order to be with Andrea.

Andrea’s father was a former Marine and is no longer with us he passed away when the girls were young. 

This will leave Andrea’s mother with no source of income while she is caring for Andrea.

The journey is going to be long and there are still many unknowns. 

The money raised will also help her mother so she can be her caregiver through her entire process. 

The process will include the hospitalization, rehabilitación, and constant care until we can have Andrea transfer safely back to Kansas City for the rest of her recovery.

Having to ask for help in a time like this is definitely a humbling experience. We just do not know how we will make all of this possible without reaching out to our friends, family and community. 

I will continue to post and update everyone for everyone to follow through this journey.

Thank you so much to the first responders, nurses, medical Doctors, hospital staff, veterinarian office and staff, and anyone that had a hand in this. Our love ones would not be here, If you guys weren’t there to answer the call. We love you and appreciate all of your hard work and dedication.
