India COVID-19 Fundraiser
Donation protected
As a third-culture kid who has grown up across Hong-Kong, the UK, and the US, India has always held a special place in my heart. Every visit back, I am constantly inspired by the people: their entrepreneurial spirit, their pursuit for education and betterment, and their strong sense of family and community. Today, over 7000 miles away from a place that I call home, I find myself heartbroken by the state of the country. As the US returns to normalcy, and the population continues to get vaccinated, I cannot help but feel an unjust disparity between this privilege and the suffering of millions of Indians, including my family.
I would like to ask for your support in helping raise funds to help support the country as it goes through this healthcare crisis. Currently, basic medication, oxygen, and hospital beds are all privileges that most of the country cannot access, increasing the death toll beyond imagination. All donations will be matched and sent directly to the American Indian Foundation.
The American Indian Foundation:
HEALTH FACILITY INTERVENTIONS
1. Oxygen concentrators - Providing oxygen concentrators to primary care facilities in rural areas, where there has been a dire shortage
2. Ventilators – Procuring and ensuring the installation of ventilators in states that have expressed a need
3. Portable hospitals (20 – 100 beds) – Addressing the shortages of beds by adding portable hospitals to existing health facilities
4. Cold-storage equipment - Procuring and ensuring the installation of cold-storage facilities for vaccines, which will become a need as vaccine production increases
FRONTLINE HEALTH WORKER INTERVENTIONS
1. Community screening and home-based management – Providing pulse oximeters to state governments, for their entire ASHA and ANM workforce, to be able to improve community monitoring of COVID-19 patients and ensure early referral
2. Personal protective gear (PPE) - Providing frontline workers with masks, gloves, and hand sanitizers, for personal protection
COMMUNITY-CENTERED INTERVENTIONS
1. Awareness campaign – Spreading community awareness of sustained COVID- appropriate behavior, including the use of masks, hand hygiene, physical distancing, and home-based care of infected individuals, along with creating awareness on vaccination and related side effects
2. Ensuring nutrition of key vulnerable groups via cash transfer - Supporting the nutritional needs of vulnerable communities, particularly women and children
