I am a single full time working mom who has raised an amazing 16 year old High Honor student on my own. She has an opportunity to go to Puerto Rico with her Spanish class in April. I've never been able to afford to take her on a vacation & we never imagined she would be able to go on this trip. Last month a family member volunteered full support and assured us that "We will be sure to send her to Puerto Rico". I was clear in my response that I could not contribute, so we were led to believe all expenses would be paid for. Unfortunately, we are now finding out this was not true.  The entire trip costs $2400. We have $950 from fundraising and much appreciated donations. We are left with a balance of $1450 that we do not have. She has been on a rollarcoaster of emotions, first not believing this trip was possible to feeling grateful, supported and rewarded for her hard work in school by someone other than me. This is difficult for me to ask for funds but it is more difficult to watch my child be hurt and disappointed. I'm hoping this is an opportunity to witness that the saying is true "it takes a village to raise a child."
