Dave DeLap Heart Repair & Expenses
Donation protected
On September 4th our father, David DeLap had an emergency quadruple bypass. We knew things would be rough but we did not know exactly what we were going to be up against. After complications arrose after his surgery we found out that one of his grafts had clotted off and he went into cardiogenic shock. They quickly placed in a balloon pump and intubated him for a flight to Spokane, Wa. When he reached Sacred Heart Hospital he showed signs of a heart attack and a possible stroke. He had no movement on the right side of his body. They told us that his heart is that of a 95 year old, not the youthful 54 year old body it lives in. He has a genetic disease that has affected him since the age of 36 when he first suffered a heart attack. We are so grateful and appreciative of the strides we have made in the last couple days. He has now came through his sedation and has regained some strength in his right side! Though his short term memory had taken a hit they have cancelled the orders for a neurological exam which his great news! We are so very thankful for all the kind thoughts and prayers, as they have carried us through this very difficult time.
They are expecting Dad to take a while to recover but we are certain we are recieving the best care here in the Cardiac Intestive Care Unit. This is going to be the first hurdle to make it over in our journey of repairing Dad's heart. Dr. Icenogel is a transplant surgeon specialist and the best of his kind. He has been very honest with us in that we have a long road ahead of us in considering transplants and the financial costs. My mother is currently on a leave of absence from work in Brewster so that she is able to be with my dad. Medically my dad will not be able to work again and it has brought us to a place where financially we need help. Insurance payments and uncovered medical procedures are quickly adding up, along with the costs of our family staying close to the hospital and finding a place to stay for my mother during this journey. Any help is greatly appreciated as we make it through this journey with our dad.
