Support Needed for Medical and Housing Crisis

Hello this is Gina calling out to all my friends & family near and far. I never thought that I would be in this situation. It’s extremely embarrassing, but I’m desperate at this point. I had to leave Portugal in November 2024 due to a very serious illness. I needed to be near my family. After 60 days in the hospital and nursing home, I’ve found myself penniless. I’ve had to pay out in excess of $20,000 in healthcare cost prescriptions and Housing. My savings are exhausted. I find myself now on the cusp of being homeless. I’m currently in an Extended stay hotel that’s handicap accessible. The rent here is $550 a week. My disability income is only $1929 a month. Next week’s rent is due tomorrow and I honestly don’t know how I’m gonna pay it.

I desperately need funds for rent and medical care. I need to find a less expensive place to stay but lack the funds to secure one. They want a deposit first month’s rent up front and I’m talking about a room in a house. Rent in this area is $1400 a month for a one bedroom apartment.

I also need funds to properly follow up with my brain cancer from 2012,buy my prescription drugs and to see a doctor. I’ve reached out to various programs, but they say that I can’t qualify because my disability payment of $1929 a month is too high. As a result, I’m having to pay for all my prescriptions out-of-pocket, and have not been able to afford to go to the doctor to address a myriad of health issues. I’m an insulin, dependent diabetic and have developed extremely high blood pressure since being here. Like 200/100. I’ve gone completely blind in my right eye. I also need an MRI of my brain to rule out a recurrence of the brain tumor. I’ve had horrible headaches lately and I’m worried.

I urgently need to see a mental health, professional because stress is crippling me. I’m unable to sleep and desperately need to fully recover. The current side of affairs in this country is toxic to my health.

I desperately need to return to Portugal where I can easily afford my healthcare. In Portugal, I have medical insurance, affordable rent and can survive on my disability check. In the USA I simply can’t.

So part of the funds will go to returning to the only Country that I can afford to live in. I also have my little dog Mira there and she’s waiting for me.

I need to replenish some part of my savings. As a 62 year old single lady with health issues, I really to need to rebuild a safety net.

My current situation has opened my eyes to the sadness of others caught up in the same trap. I asked we pray for them and if you see another plea for help you’ll be moved to help them as well. I know I will!
