Help Kitty Walk Again

Hi everybody, thanks for clicking on our page!

This is Kitty- he's a spunky,  sassy, and loving domestic longhaired feline that is just one year old. He loves to chase leaves and play with his two best friends Penny and Tank. On Tuesday March 24, 2020 I heard some violent screeching at our back door. When I opened the door I immediately knew something was terribly wrong.

He had been hit by a car. Kitty was almost lifeless. his breath was shallow and deteriorating, his eyes were rolling while his left hind leg was dangling. I ran to my husband (who was giving our 19 month old twins a bath) we stealthy packed up the car and drove to the closest veterinarian hospital. The doctor sedated him to get x-rays and to relive the pain. After the X-rays his vitals were taken. His temperature had dropped so severely the vet urgently wrapped him up in heating blankets and hooked him up to fluids. Doc fed him some vitamins and glucose through the IV to keep him going. The radiography showed no visible signs of internal bleeding but the blood test told a different story. Although he wasn't bleeding internally, the diagnostic test showed that his liver and kidneys were struggling to preform from the impact of the car, not catastrophically enough for emergency surgery but enough to cause concern. He hasn't been able to urinate since and we've been taking him into the vet to relieve his bladder while we await surgery.

As for the X-ray results,  we  were informed that his femur had shattered into 7 pieces and that the trauma was too great to save his leg. Plating the leg would consist of multiple surgeries with subsequent physical therapy for months and even then there was no guarantee that he would actually be able to use the leg again. After consulting with one another, the  orthopedic surgeons agreed that amputation would be the best bet and the most cost effective. Still a whopping 6,000 for the amputation. This doesn't include the overnight care, medication, check ups, or any other variable that may come into affect. This is on top of the 2,000 we have already spent just to diagnose the problem. Kitty is due to get his surgery Tuesday March 31st, one week after this tragic accident.

We have worked endlessly for everything we have and its a huge punch in the gut to reach out to or fellow animal lovers and ask for a donation, but unfortunately were at a dead end. Kitty is a part of our family, at one year old he still has a fruitful and happy life to live.  We cannot entertain the thought of our lives without his sweet purr, his soft nudges and his warmth. As I sit here writing this with tears rolling down my face, I have faith that everything will fall into place and that Kitty will thrive as a "tripod".

I know we all deal with financial troughs, especially at a time like this where the world is enduring a pandemic. Many are out of work for an unknown time, and are wondering how we will pay our bills and take care of our children, including myself- but even clicking on this page and reading our story fills our hearts with gratitude and optimism.  There can be light in darkness, and our shining light is that Kitty is alive and will (hopefully) continue on in prosperity. Thank you for reading, donating, or sharing our story. Be safe and take care to you all.

 With love and hope,
The Perez Family

Also I beg you to please REMEMBER that speed limits are enforced for a reason!! Being alert and careful while driving can save a life, and reduce accidents like this.
