Cam's Fight

Donation protected
Many of you know my very dear friend Amber Nash. I have known her all of my life and can say that she is an amazing lady and a wonderful mother. She and her husband John have a home in North Carolina they share with their two children Cameren Hebden who is 14 and Ava George who is 1. John is a wonderful provider for his family and has made it possible for Amber to be a stay-at-home mom to be able to be home every day with little Ava and with Cam when he is not in school. Recently, Cam went to stay with his dad Stephen for a while. While he was there, he happened to develop a blood clot in his leg. He was treated by the doctor and was given medications for the condition and was told to follow up. Over the past few weeks, Cam started to experience shortness of breath and a rapid 40-pound weight loss. While he was visiting his mom, she noticed the weight loss and was concerned about it. She and I were talking and it came up that he also was having shortness of breath. I encouraged her to take him to the emergency room to ensure his blood clot had not moved. While Cam was being worked up in the ER, they discovered that he had several blood clots in his lungs and liver. The doctors expressed to Amber that this was unusual and that they wanted to send him to the children’s hospital near-by. During the course of their 3-week stay (up to this point) at the children’s hospital, they received devastating news. Cameren has cancer. They have a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and they do not know what the future holds. His medical course is complicated by the fact that this cancer is not common in one so young and that the cancer has spread throughout his body. Currently the medical team is working on transferring Cam’s care to Duke University due to the complexity of his case. At this time, the prognosis is unknown. They do not know what treatment looks like at this time, or how long it may take.

What is known is that Cam and his family need support. They need prayers, love, and assistance. John has had to take time off from work to be able to support his wife and children during this trying time, and will need to take more time off in the future as a treatment course is established. They do not know what the future holds for Cam or their little family. While I cannot fathom what they are experiencing, I can empathize. They are constantly worried about Cam and his health, they are worried about current and future medical expenses, they are worried about how to keep groceries in the house and bills paid with John needing to be out of work so often. I have created this GoFundMe in hopes to help ease some of their burdens. If you or someone you know who is willing to donate something to this family, it would be greatly appreciated. My hope is that I am able to raise enough money to help them pay for medical expenses and to help them build up a nest egg to help cover any costs of living they have so that Amber and John are able to be with Cam during this time without worrying they may not be able to pay their bills or keep food in the house.

If you are unable to donate that is ok! I ask that you share this GoFundMe far and wide in hopes that someone else may be able to. If you are interested in other ways to help, the family has asked for child care assistance with Ava, diapers, casseroles and premade meals, gas cards, assistance with house work, etc. If you would like to assist with any of the things listed, reach out to me and I will coordinate getting any assistance to the family. If you think you are unable to help, you are! You can help by spreading the word of Cam’s ongoing journey and by sending love and prayers to help them at this time.
