On November 11th, on the eve of her birthday, Paula ruptured a brain aneurysm. Thankfully, her husband was there to save her life and rush her to the ER. She was immediately transported to one of the best neurology centers in the nation and unfortunately, she's been in the ICU at Rush University Medical Center, all alone due to COVID restrictions, ever since. So far, there have been 3 surgeries to stop the leak, repair the damage, and control the continuing mini-strokes with more to be anticipated.
Paula has always been the one to take care of everyone, her family and friends knew we could count on her if we needed anything and she would never ask for help with anything she could do herself. At work, people count on her so much that she would quickly become someone her coworkers knew they could call on whenever needed.
She keeps us grounded and entertained. Even while going through all this, her sense of humor shines through the anesthesia and medications trying to manage her pain.
We have no idea when she'll be out of the ICU, but we must keep up hope. Unfortunately, every day in a neurology ICU is very costly. Even with a great insurance plan she's looking at tens or possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars in deductibles, uncovered procedures, rehabilitation, equipment and other out of pocket expenses.
We, her family, are humbling ourselves to ask for your help on her behalf. We couldn't have anticipated whatshe is going through and we know there's a long tough road ahead of us. We thank you for anything you can spare. Our current fundraising goal is $30,000.

Updated goal of $100,000 since it's been over 7 weeks, so FML is over, she's not going to be able to work any time soon, so she is likely going to lose her insurance and she'll need 24/7 care when ever she does get out of the hospital.
