This request is for the expense of obtaining a service dog for my brother John Stone who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. I would like to tell you a little bit about my big brother. He served in the U.S. Navy as a young man and has been in law enforcement for the last 20 years. Everyone that knows him, knows he is always smiling and always has something nice to say. If someone needed something done, he is always there. He is a sensitive man and has a huge heart. He loves to make people laugh. Even with the challenges that he is now facing, he keeps a positive attitude.
Last year he was forced to make the decision to retire from law enforcement before his symptoms grew worse and to try to enjoy his time before his condition worsens. He is the oldest of 6 children and married to wonderful woman who has been by his side through thick and thin. Two grown sons that he is very proud of and who have blessed him in recent years with 3 grandchildren with whom he loves to spend time. He is loved by his siblings, nieces & nephews as well as his extended friends and family.
Most people have heard of Parkinson’s and some of the symptons that go along with it including siezures but not many people are as familiar as Lewy body dementia.
Lewy body dementia is a form of Alzheimer’s that causes a progressive decline in mental abilities as well as hallucinations. There are currently no drugs approved by the FDA to specifically treat Lewy body dementia.
This request is for a service dog to help my brother with his everyday activities. With this illness there is a lot of mental strain on my brother and our family. A service dog will help him keep some normality in his life and can be the friend that is needed and not affected by the stress of the disease. Always there to help, support and love unconditionally.
He is currently on the waiting list for a service dog that will be trained specifically to help and support my brother with his specific needs. The cost for the dog, travel expense, out of town accommodation and cost to bring his new friend home is what we are trying to raise the money for. We are hoping that with your help, John will be able to get a service dog before the holidays.
If you able to donate, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This will make a huge difference for our brother and if you are unable please share this campaign through Facebook and email with a personal message from you asking your friends and family to read and consider contributing and/or share with others. Thank you again for the consideration.
