New Prosthetic for Chad Marco

Donation protected
Chad was born and raised in B.C.  He graduated high school in 1995 and in 1996 he decided to see some of the world, like many young people, and that took him to Israel.  He was working on an Israeli cruising vessel in the Red Sea when there was an accident.  His parents air lifted him home with the help of Pacific Blue Cross.  Chad suffered severe wounds to three limbs, the loss of his lower leg on the right side and PTSD.  He was 19 years old.

The PTSD makes it hard to work, however, Chad, his wife Tara and son Ayden live in Prince George and he is attending college to get some pick up courses and in the fall start the program to become a licensed practical nurse.  Since he was a little boy Chad has had strong humanitarian inclinations.  He wants to work to support his family and he wants to do that by helping others.  He needs a new prosthetic now so that he can be assured of taking his college program in the fall and not missing classes and falling behind due to problems with his current prosthetic.

Chad received a settlement from the Israeli government but after 23 years he has gone through that and now lives on a monthly pension from the National Insurance Institute of Israel of about $2000 a month.

For the first years after the accident he was covered by Pharmacare for his prosthetic needs.  His prosthetic leg needs to be renewed about every three years.  He hasn't had a new one since 2015 and has now found out that the rules  around being covered by Pharmacare were changed in 2015.  They no longer cover someone that has had a settlement from whatever caused the loss of the limb.  He does have a settlement but its quite impossible to save money out of that $2000 a month which supports three people, in order to save up the $10,000 needed for the prosthetic and accessories.  His mum and dad, both retirees, have chipped in to help with the repairs to the current one but it is obvious that this prosthetic has reached the end of its life and Chad needs a new one urgently.  His parents also help support Chad and his family on a monthly basis.

While his mum, Brenda Marco, who is my cousin, takes on looking for other ways to cover this, especially in the future, I thought that the situation is perfect for GoFundMe.  Chad wants to work, he wants to support his family, but in the current situation he has an old prosthetic that rubs against his stump and causes chronic infection, blisters, bleeding and bruising and pain on a daily basis.

I invite everyone....with any amount to help this young man to be self sufficient.  Any funds raised over and above the cost of the prosthetic will be used for the on-going maintenance that is necessary on all prosthetic.  Thank you everyone for any amount you can give...........every $10 helps us reach our goal.

If it works better for you to send a cheque then please send direct to Chad's mum Brenda Marco at: 8583 Flowering Place, Burnaby, B.C. V5A 4B4
