Hi everyone,
Someone my boyfriend and I know had a cat show up to their home a month ago. They believe the kitty was intentionally released from one of their neighbors when she moved recently (she has dementia and her family moved her into a supportive living facility, and seemingly abandoned her cat).
The people who found her haven’t been able to let her into their home because they have a dog and one of them has a bad cat allergy. For whatever reason, they thought one of their neighbors had been feeding the cat so they hadn’t been.
A few days ago, my boyfriend and I took the cat home and to the vet. So far, we know she is extremely malnourished, and has elevated liver enzymes/liver inflammation due to her not being fed for at least a month. She is very sick, she is eating very little/doesn’t seem to have an appetite and is very lethargic.
The appointment, tests, and medications so far have cost over $800. She is also in need of an ultrasound to look at her liver which will be an additional $600. We have been told if she does not start eating 2 cans of food per day, she will need a feeding tube soon, which is a life threatening situation and will cost another $6,000.
I am having trouble affording all of these medical expenses, but I am a cat lover and I hope to nurse her back to health and give her a loving home. I want to do everything I can to avoid having to surrender her. She is the sweetest cat in the world and I want to give her a healthy and happy life.
Any advice and/or donations is beyond appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance. I will be sure to keep you updated!
