My Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis

A State Trooper's Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis

As a West Virginia State Trooper, my focus has always been to help and protect people.  Now I’m faced with changing my focus to fighting a horrible disease called Multiple Sclerosis.  In August of last year, I experienced an episode in which the doctors believed to be a form of a stroke.  After a few weeks, I recovered and was able to return to work.  In April, I began to experience symptoms again.  By the 21st, they became so severe that I was admitted to the hospital for a few days.  They ran several tests ultimately believing I had MS and referred me to a neurologist.  The neurologist confirmed my diagnosis but are still trying to determine the type of MS that I have.  They have been working to try to find a medication and treatment that my body will respond to, but so far, the treatments have been unsuccessful.  I am in constant pain and struggle to walk and stay fatiqued.  I have been trying to work with physical therapy but my continued symptoms have prevented me from completing some of my sessions. The doctors are still working to find a treatment that my body will respond to in a attempt for this disease to go into remission, but until they can find one, I am unable to return to work.

For those of you that do not know me personally, I am newly married to my loving and caring wife, Whitney and have 3 amazing kids that I am very proud of!  Austin is serving in the United States Air Force, currently deployed in Afghanistan and Cameron and Summer are both still in high school.  I have dedicated the last 23 years to law enforcement with the last 12 years as a West Virginia State Trooper.  I love my job!  Law Enforcement and helping people is my passion.  It is my hope to soon be able to return to doing what I love.

I have always taken pride in providing for and supporting my family.  Now I am very worried that I will no longer be able to do so and will lose everything.  Because of this, I am very humbly reaching out to you each one of you to ask for help.  My sick pay will eventually be exhausted if the MS does not go into remission.  I am faced with continued treatments, high medication costs that my insurance is unsure how much will be covered  due to being a specialty medication and medical bills.  All funds will go towards my treatment, medication and medical bills.  My family and I will be forever grateful for any help we may receive.
