Rodney's Fight With AML Leukemia
My name is Rodney Rodriguez, I would like to start this off by saying thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and my experience fighting AML. I started working as a young man doing the strenuous work of a tile installer & have been in this trade for over 30 years now. I have a wonderful wife and 3 amazing children to support as I have always believed in the age old tradition of providing for my family and those I am responsible for & love. The Lord has been very gracious allowing me to be able to work hard & provide for my family's needs. The Lord provided!!! But now the Lord has shown me a new path. In August of 2016, I was scratched by a nail on my foot as I was fixing my fence. This tiny scratch turned into cellulitis, a skin infection that can turn deadly if left untreated. The following morning I was admitted into Tampa General Hospital. After a few blood test I was told I had Acute Myeloid Leukemia. At 51 I still thought I was Superman, but even Superman has his kryptonite. My immediate thought was how to support my family and keep my loyal employees working. I also wanted to give into fear for my life, & the unknown. A year later I am no longer able to work or be around all the flooring chemicals and have depleted our savings. While in remission & a week before my bone marrow transplant I had to go in for a routine bone marrow biopsy. What they found though was not routine. My worst nightmare has come true….My AML has come back. But I am a cancer survivor… with cancer again. I know faith and doctors will keep me alive however I don’t know how to get through all the financial burdens fighting AML. I am humbly and so graciously asking for a hand in my families most trying and heartbreaking time of need. If you feel that you are able to help us by donating any amount to my go fund account it will truly be appreciated from the depths of my heart. My loved ones and I are so humbled and honored to be seeing so many blessings through this challenging and worrisome journey with AML. God Bless All!!
