Hope for Hailey

One of my dearest friends Cassie and her husband TJ are living their worst nightmare. On November 6th, there 11-are year-old daughter Hailey came to them having a very hard time breathing and coughing up blood. They took her to the ER where she was diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted. At check-in, in the emergency room Hailey’s oxygen levels were very low 80. On November 7th Hailey was transferred to Doernbecher’s hospital due to still vomiting blood and needing better diagnostics. In order to do this, they placed a breathing tube to put her on a ventilator to help assist her breathing and provide her with oxygen. Shortly after that a CT was performed which revealed how bad her lungs were. They were not only infected but filling with blood continually. In order to keep her still to reduce the amount of bleeding they placed her in a medically induced coma, where she is incapacitated and unable to speak, move or speak. The doctors then began draining Hailey’s lungs when they realized there was a hemorrhage, and it became critical to get the bleeding to stop. November 8th brought a lot of tears. November 8th is Hailey’s 12th birthday. There were no candles blown out. The amazing nurses brought some gifts, and one even braided her hair so beautiful, as Hailey remained in a coma. November 8th brought sad news. The doctors pulled Cassie and TJ aside to explain to them how sick Hailey really is and that they needed to start preparing themselves for the worst. Hailey’s oxygen levels are still dropping at night, the doctors tried different levels, but she was maxed out on how much they could give her. With that being unsuccessful surgery was their last hope even though it was dangerous. Hailey underwent surgery Wednesday November 9th. The surgery was to place an ECMO machine, which in layman’s terms is a type of life support. The machine allows a bridge to her heart that bypasses her lungs to draw her blood out where it then gets oxidized and put back in her body. This is allowing her lungs to completely rest and give them a fighting chance to heal. As of November 10th, she is stable, and we are all hoping and praying for her recovery. Right now, Cassie and TJ are not leaving Hailey’s side. They have been sleeping in the back of there Jeep as they wait for a room at the Ronald McDonald house. Hailey’s brother is at home with family, as being at the hospital is too hard for him. He is missing his little sister so much. Neither Cassie or TJ is able to work right now, and it looks like they will be at the hospital for at least a month or more with Hailey as this little girl needs her mom and dad as much as they need her. This puts a huge hardship on them financially. If you could please help this amazing family, they would appreciate it more then you ever know. Any donations will go to paying bills especially to their house, food, and gas.

Update -  We have a diagnosis and Hailey does not have pneumonia. Hailey has what is called Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) Associated with Vasculitis. For short ANCA vasculitis, which can be very deadly. It is an autoimmune disease. Right now, this is all I have but will update when I know more. Thank you all so much. Cassie and TJ say they have some amazing doctors and nurses and so thankful for them. We pray daily for Hailey to pull through this.
