Foxx Friends Aviary - UPDATE

Donation protected

UPDATE 7PM ET, 12/11: We have been able to finance the aviary and have it delivered this week.  We're keeping the fundraiser open because every other issue that has left us with empty pockets still exists and your support will still help us keep things moving forward and get back into our home.  We'll still commemorate each donor with a plaque in the aviary as noted below.

**********
Our fundraiser will support the construction of a new aviary for the Foxx Friends rescued birds. They are currently being housed in the last room of our home to be demolished while we are living in our travel trailer parked out back.

We purchased the home just before Hurricane Irma came through Florida. It is having to be rebuilt  predominantly because of the significant damage done to its structure by termites. We knew there was some damage from the inspection but did not expect a complete rebuild.

Why do we need to raise funds? Besides the rebuild, David was laid off from his job at the beginning of November and although a job search is in progress, funds are running out.  By January 1st, all work will come to a stop until David finds a new job or we can raise money to keep the project going.  Winter has set in and the house has no power or heat. A small space heater is keeping nighttime temps comfortable for the time being. We moved to Florida out of Illinois to give our rescues more time to enjoy warmer weather... just not this way.

Rescuing parrots, conures, cockatoos, and a macaw has offered our feathered family members forever homes when their original families could no longer care for them or lost interest in them. Sure, it would be easy to take them to another rescue - but would you do the same to a loved one you took in? We can’t either. We had to put a hold on taking in any new rescues after the hurricane and now indefinitely until we’re back on our feet.

Family, friends, and friends we haven’t met yet who support this fundraiser will have their donations returned once the project is completed, David is employed again, and the property we have up for sale in Lakeland or Lake Wales, FL sells.  We will also commemorate the support we receive with a plaque in the new aviary, one that will include the names of every donor.

Any amount will be appreciated. We hope you can find some spare change to contribute. While none of our birds has ever said thank you (they’ve said a lot of other things), we will say thank you on their behalf.
