Total Colectomy
Donation protected
Hello everyone.
I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative pancolitis when I was 15 years old. Since then, I have tried many medications, one of which nearly killed me, endless types of therapies, diets, blood transfusions, and more, and have seen very little relief in the last 9 years. I’ve been experiencing deeply painful, bloody diarrhea countless times a day, including throughout the night. I suffer from terrible incontinence. I cannot remember the last time I was not in pain.
This last year I have been in a big flare to the point of being resistant to steroids. I was scoped this past Friday (3/22), and it was discovered that my entire colon is precancerous. There has been so much severe chronic inflammation that my colon has shrunk to under half the normal size (normal colon is about 180cm….mine is barely 65cm). There are no more medications or therapies that will help. My only option is a complete colectomy (removal of the colon) with ileostomy (you know, The Bag).
This is a major surgery that will require upwards of 6 weeks of recovery time. While I should come out on the other side healthy and able to live a relatively normal life, recovery is going to be incredibly difficult. I will not be able to work the entire recovery period, (I do not get paid medical leave, as I am part time due to my illness) and every part of this is going to be insanely difficult.
I am asking for help to cover bills during this time, as I am not the only one in my life who will be out of work for this since I will be needing round the clock care.
Your donations will help to cover my rent, car payment, food for both me and my animals, medications, medical supplies, as well as therapy and more. I am not yet sure what medicaid will cover of the surgery, so your donations will also be going towards the total cost (somewhere around $50,000) of my surgery.
I will have full blown cancer within months and die if I do not get this surgery. Any and every donation helps. I am terrified. Thank you so much.
