Hi Friends and Family,

My name is Kim Nelson and I live in Northern California.

On July 2, 2024, a fire broke out in the garage of my 26-year-old son Jacob's home in Desert Hot Springs. Jacob, his girlfriend Rayley, and Dad were all sleeping and by the grace of God, a neighbor saw the smoke and beat on the door until they woke up. They were all able to get out a front window, grabbing only a few items, including their 2 cats. Unfortunately, then they had to stand by and watch as the home was destroyed by fire, smoke and water damage. His home and all of their belonging have been deemed a 100% loss and they are currently living in a hotel with only the few things they were able to grab.

For any of you who personally know me or Jacob, asking for help does not come naturally or easily, however, Jacob has worked so hard for his home, that I feel compelled to reach out and ask for help. Luckily, insurance will cover the rebuilding of the house, but he has been told that it will be anywhere from 8 months to one and half years before it is done.

Jacob and his dad had been rebuilding the jeep in the garage over the last several years and together they had put in countless hours of blood, sweat and tears equity. It was in the final stages of hitting the road! I know that Jacob's heart was breaking as this was a treasured keepsake and a memory that he would forever hold dear.

The displacement and emotional trauma they are all going through is heartbreaking and I can't even imagine what it feels like to lose absolutely everything. I ask that you might just send whatever you can so they can purchase some necessities, clothing, toiletries, food items, etc. and get back on their feet and feel a bit of normalcy during this time.
