**All funds will go towards helping my grandma pay for my grandpa's funeral costs as well as supporting her living situation as she is at risk of losing her home now that her only income for being a caregiver for my grandpa is gone. She is also in debt from medical bills etc that were required for my grandpa**
I'm making this gofundme for my grandmother Rita, who is in dire need of financial assistance after her husband Louie (my grandfather) passed away on April 13th 2023. My grandma is 76 years old and worked her entire life up until about a year ago. She has been taking care of my grandpa who hasn't been able to walk on his own for the last 4-5 years after an infection in his foot required it to be amputated. That among many other ailments caused his health to spiral once he was immobilized. As his health began to drastically decline in the last year my grandma could no longer work - despite already struggling with income - so that she could take care of my grandpa full-time.
Our family has never been in a good financial position. And without going into an immense amount of detail, the reality is my grandma never had the benefit of her kids taking care of her. As we (her grandkids) grew up and got jobs we did our best to help support her. However, after paying our own rent and bills we never had much to give. Of course we did what we could, but as medical bills piled up and debt grew things became more and more difficult and my grandma was always forced to work despite our efforts.
Now after this last year, her only income was from being a caretaker for my grandfather. However, now that he has passed she is only left with social security for herself which doesn't even cover half of the rent. Again, the family will come together and do our best to support her, but with funeral costs, living expenses, and debt all looming over she will likely be forced to go back to work or move in with one of us which would be a very difficult task as we are all renting / sharing apartments with roomates or partners. We will of course not allow her to be homeless, but as desperate times call for desperate measures we ask for help from anyone willing and able.
Thank you!
