The Lawson Family

Hey everyone! I am one of Mike and Alice’s daughters. We have been asked by multiple people to make a gofundme to help with different expenses we will have as a family as we are dealing with the aftermath of the car accident both my parents were in last Wednesday night (April 10th).

The crash was very severe as they got t-boned by an suv hauling a boat that ran a red light. The suv was going full speed, and there was no indication of an attempt to stop before it made contact with my parent’s car. Their car was pinned up against a power pole and they had to cut the roof off to get them out. Our dad was airlifted and admitted into a trauma icu, and our mother was transferred by ambulance to a different trauma icu. Both have since been moved out of the icu and into rooms in each of their respective hospital’s trauma units/floors. As you can imagine, being in two different places has been quite stressful and will quickly become expensive due to how much gas we are using to go in between the two different hospitals.

Our mother, Alice’s injuries include: a fractured pelvis, fractured tail bone, bladder bleed, a chipped vertebrae, and a broken finger. We suspect she may also have some broken toes but are not certain yet.

Our father, Mike’s injuries include: a broken pelvis, broken clavicle, broken rib, broken ankle and fractured leg, bladder bleed, fractured L4 and L5 vertebrae, and another injury to his urinary tract (other than his bladder).

Alice has had surgery to stabilize her pelvis. Mike has had a spinal fusion surgery to repair his spine, and a surgery to repair his bladder. If everything stays relatively the same from this point on Mike is still facing one more surgery, in a few months, as the surgeons want to wait for some scar tissue to form first before surgery, as it could potentially cause the surgery to fail if they do not wait. Alice will also have another surgery in 3 to 4 months to remove the stabilizing bar and screws in her pelvis. Alice currently has a catheter placed for the next few weeks to see if her bladder will heal itself and Mike currently has a bladder bag, and will have it until his next surgery.

Both parents will be facing a long road to recovery, and will have to learn how to walk again. We anticipate them going through months, if not closer to a years worth of physical therapy and rehab. They will both be out of work for an extended and indefinite amount of time, which is upsetting to both of them as they both genuinely enjoy their jobs.

As a family we know that money will never fix what has occurred, but that it will help ease the strain and stress that one person’s decision has caused. Thank you all for your ongoing support!
