Carsyn is headed back to the NAPA Center this December for a 3 week intensive therapy session!
This GoFundMe has been created to help support Carsyn Messmore’s 3 week trip to Austin, Texas to receive world renowned therapy that uses techniques that are not seen in the Midwest. Funds will also be put towards purchasing a list of items that Carsyn needs that are not covered by insurance: a special needs bicycle so she can ride with her brother, a PPOD chair which is a comfy alternative to sitting in her wheelchair, a special needs car seat, and a Galileo vibration plate for therapy. These items alone total close to $7,000. We were planning on hosting a silent auction fundraiser this summer and looked forward to getting everyone together while having fun, raising money for Carsyn. Unfortunately, we had to cancel those plans due to COVID.
As most of you remember, Carsyn had the chance to receive 3 weeks of intensive therapy in the fall of 2018 at the NAPA center in Los Angeles. Carsyn progressed significantly over those 3 weeks and by the end was able to stand for longer periods of time, take steps with assistance, roll from side to side, and was able to communicate messages using a switch. These 3 weeks were life changing for not only Carsyn, but for Mom and Dad too! They have continued to use many of the strategies that they learned over the past 2 years and are eager to see the advancements Carsyn will make with her 2nd intensive session.
This year they were excited to see that the NAPA Center was opening a new location in Austin, Texas! Carsyn was registered within the first 30 seconds of 2020 open registration and was lucky enough to get one of the few therapy slots in Austin! This will be much more manageable as they will be able to drive and avoid the craziness of navigating the airport and flights with all of her necessary supplies, equipment, wheelchair, feedings, and medicines.
For those that may not know Carsyn, she is our sweet, beautiful, loving, and courageous 4 year old girl that loves dancing to her favorite songs, walks with her little brother, spending time outside, and seeing her classmates, therapists, and teachers at rochester elementary school.
Carsyn was diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) after birth which is a brain injury related to lack of oxygen to the brain. Carsyn was later diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy, cortical vision impairment, and a seizure disorder due to the brain injury.
Carsyn’s mom and dad continue to appreciate the support that they have received along this journey. Providing Carsyn with this specialized therapy is for the most part out of pocket. The therapy will cost them around $6,000 for the 3 week intensive. The travel and lodging expenses also quickly add up for a 23 day trip (especially in Austin). If you find yourself able to donate any amount towards Carsyn’s trip to Texas and her other equipment needs, the Messmore’s would incredibly appreciate it. We also know & completely understand this year has not been great for many people. If you are unable to donate they will gladly take all of the positive thoughts and prayers for a safe and successful intensive in Austin! Thank you all!
