Please help Mickey recover after a serious accident
Our IBEW Local 164 Sister Michelle “Mickey” Taylor, and her boyfriend, Operating Engineers Local 825 Brother Greg Dash, were involved in a serious motorcycle accident a few weeks ago.
They were minding their business heading home in the left lane on Rt 80 West between Wayne and Rt 287, Greg at the wheel, Mickey on the back, when an aggressive driver sped up on them swerving multiple lanes. When he pulled in front of them, he clipped the front tire of the bike and sent them into the grass median. Greg miraculously kept the bike upright down the embankment but lost control as it started up the other side of the gully. The bike went down, and they were both thrown off. Mickey was sliding on the grass long enough to think “stay loose, stay loose”. When she came to a stop she was unable to get up because of the pain but gratefully she could still move all her limbs. Unfortunately, her right wrist was shattered, and she had to have emergency surgery, and plate and nine screws to reassemble her wrist. Greg suffered a torn collar bone, separated from his sternum that is inoperable due to proximity to his heart, fractured ribs and a fractured ankle.
Miraculously they survived but Mickey is now unable to work. She is on disability, and the surgery was paid for, but because it was a motorcycle accident, the insurance doesn’t cover much else including the physical therapy and other expenses. All of that is out of her pocket and extremely expensive. Her son and daughter are doing their best to help their mom heal.
We are asking for help for our Sister who has always stood up for her Brothers and Sisters on the job. She gladly takes the time to teach the apprentices who are lucky enough to work with her, the right way to do the job and how to be union. She donates her time and skill to her church community and always has a smile and a good word for everyone. Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to helping her through this challenging time until she can heal and get back to work.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give!
