"Sisters are the perfect best friend" a sign so proudly hung up in my niece Leighton's bedroom as we anxiously await the arrival of her undoubtedly just as wild little sister, Logan. Logan and Leighton were to be inseparable, much like my twin sister Lisa and I were and still are. However, all of our hopes and dreams came to a crashing to hault as we received the phone call from my sister on February 16th stating that she was contracting and heading to the emergency room, she was only 22 weeks pregnant. We were hopeful that she would get to the hospital and labor could be stopped, unfortunately due to complications from a subchorionic hemorrhage causing excessive bleeding and an infection in the uterus, Logan needed to come out immediately. Our family was devastated, preparing to have my sister deliver Logan and for her to die shortly after birth. Doctors and nurses warned my sister and her husband, Ben that babies born that early are not usually viable and only have a 1% chance at survival. Lisa and Ben asked that they still work on Logan regardless of the low statistic.
Logan was born on 02/17/18 at 8:58PM weighing 1 lb 2oz, she was immediately whisked away to the NICU, my sister screamed, "do everything you can to save her!" Logan was alive and fighting!
To the nurses and doctors surprise Logan responded well to oxygen and treatments, however doctors continue to warn Lisa and Ben that Logan only has a 1% chance of survival, and that she is the smallest baby they have ever had to survive in their hospital.
Logan continues to defy the odds and gets stronger every day. Her mother and father are her biggest cheerleaders.
Unfortunately, Lisa runs an in home daycare so she does not qualify for any sort of assistance financially while she is on leave. Lisa and Ben's heart's are always at the NICU as they visit Logan often while still trying to maintain normalcy for their two other children.
We are asking for any help financially from friends and family so that all of the focus can be on Logan rather than medical bills and Lisa going back to work right away. If you cannot donate please continue to keep Logan in your thoughts and prayers and that Logan will eventually get to share her room with her big sister, Leighton!
