Hello, my name is Rachel, and I am the sister of Tanya Conway, the wife of Corporal Mathew Conway. Corporal Conway is a Veteran of the United States Army and a devoted detective with the Gwinnett County Police Department, SVU division. Matt is the loving father to a two-year-old baby girl and step-father to daughter(13) and son(15).

On Saturday, June 18th, my sister found Matt unresponsive in the early morning hours. Matt had turned blue/purple and was not breathing. My sister is a 911 dispatcher (also with Gwinnett County) and knew immediately she needed to start CPR. Tanya yelled for their son to call 911 while she began chest compressions. After several minutes of CPR, she grew weak, and their 15-year-old jumped in to help. Once the ambulance arrived on the scene, he was shocked by the AED and rushed to the hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, they admitted him to the ICU, where they intubated and sedated him while many tests were run. Matt is now off the ventilator, but we still do not have a definitive diagnosis. His heart is weak, and he is having cognitive issues. He has now been transferred to a hospital in Atlanta for more extensive testing. This hospital is over an hour from their home, which has been difficult for my sister, especially with the baby at home. Matt is only 27 years old, so as you could imagine, the doctors are perplexed. These cardiac events are not typical for a man of his age.

Matt has a long road ahead; he has now developed pneumonia in both lungs. Again, they have not determined what triggered his cardiac event. We are unsure of his treatment plan at this time. He could possibly be out of work for weeks or even months. Please find it in your hearts to help this loving family. Matt and Tanya have dedicated their lives to public service. It's our time to now help them in this time of need.
