Carol retained all of her skin and was working toward reconstruction. She had surgery in October 2014 to replace a tissue expander (put in during the original surgery in December) with an implant. She developed a staph infection and had to have the implant removed four weeks later. Then she developed a yeast infection at the surgical site. The infections are now cleared up, but she no longer wants to proceed with reconstruction. She will have another surgery in the spring to remove her breast skin, and the expectations are that all the difficult parts of treatment are behind her!
Carol has good insurance that has paid the vast majority of her medical expenses, for which she and Lanny are very grateful. However, there is one charge for $9,811 that the insurance has denied. This is in addition to deductibles and co-pays and additional medical expenses that add up to another $10,000. With another surgery scheduled, there will also be another group of expenses to come: some of the travel (CTCA provides Carol’s plane tickets), lodging, some meals, naturopathic supplements prescribed by CTCA, etc. They also are having problems with their only car that will need to be replaced soon. Any contribution that you could make toward alleviating their outstanding expenses would be a great help!
Here is a note from Lanny and Carol:
“We know that the goodness of God has sustained us in powerful ways over the last nineteen months as we have travelled this difficult journey, and we are deeply grateful this and for wonderfully supportive family and friends. Thank you so much for your continued thoughts, prayers, and love. Blessings, Lanny and Carol Simpson”
