Patrick's Medical Expenses

Hello, my name is Andrea T., Patrick’s wife.

Patrick is currently in ICU dealing with Valley Fever/ pneumonia. He has severe Valley Fever and because of his asthma, he is at higher risk.

I’m trying to raise funds to cover or offset the unexpected expenses of his medical bills/ treatments along with the rehabilitation process that is not covered by his insurance. We have a long road ahead to fight this Valley Fever.

Patrick began to have symptoms on New Year's Eve when we were out of state at the time. We flew back to California on January 6th.

On January 7th we went to Urgent Care because he was having high fevers, (103) trouble breathing, and tightness in his chest. We though at the time he might have a cold or the flu.

January 9th we went into the ER and they had informed us at the time that he had pneumonia. After additional testing, CAT scans, and X-rays they potentially said he could have sepsis.

The medical team worked effortlessly to try to find a diagnosis, researching bugs and fungi found in North Carolina. After some time they informed us he could have Valley fever. He had many test, and blood work ti try to determine the underline cause. Doctor's confirmed he had Valley fever on top of his pneumonia.

We didn’t know the extent of Valley fever until the infectious Disease Doctor showed us an X-ray of his lungs. The Valley fever affected both of his lungs but his right lung has more damage than his left.

He has had fevers of over 103 degrees, he is currently on antibiotics, steroids, prednisone, and Amphotericin b Liposomal. He continues to take his Albuterol treatments and is currently on oxygen. He is mobile and awake but has tightness in his chest, is short-winded, and is out of breath often when moving around. He has been getting a lot of rest and gets fatigued due to the medication.

We are extremely grateful for the medical team CNAs, RNs, RT, Interns, Doctors, Specialists, and all other medical staff who have given us the care and medication he needs and have walked us through this unbelievable life-changing journey.

He will be in ICU for at least two months depending on how his body responds to the medication and will be in treatment for his Valley Fever for 1 to two years, along with rehabilitation.

There have been various experiences that have taken place and have let us know God is with us on this journey. He has been alongside us and will continue to guide us through this difficult time.

We are thankful to everyone who has reached out near and far to check in on us. We have felt your love and support through this time of uncertainty and know we couldn’t do this alone.

With love,
