Dear friends…as many of you know, I suffered a heart attack early on the morning of June 25th. Thanks to the amazing EMS team and medical staff at University Hospital, I was quickly diagnosed and received an emergency angiogram to unblock my right coronary artery and have a stent installed. After two days in the hospital, I had an ultrasound on my heart that revealed that there was no major damage and my heart is still fairly strong.
Unfortunately, I am not able to drive for 30 days after my heart attack (July 26) and since my primary source of income at the moment is Uber driving, I am not able to earn an income. I do have a very modest amount of music booking commissions coming in during July and August, but not enough to pay my bills. I also now have over $200 per month in prescriptions to pay for. I will be applying to the Trillium Drug Program to help with that. Fingers crossed that will come through.
Overall, I feel pretty good, but still get tired easily. I spent most of the day yesterday at Sunfest and I am optimistically planning to go to Hillside festival this weekend. I am scheduled to begin a Cardiac rehab program at St. Joseph’s Hospital on August 28th. On September 5th, I will go to the Cardiac Institute for another ultrasound on my heart, and then see the Cardiologist on September 12th.
My family doctor is optimistic that I will make a full recovery, as long as I make the appropriate lifestyle changes….namely, diet and exercise. For right now, that means more walking and more fruits and vegetables. I don’t smoke and I rarely drink alcohol. Fortunately, I have never acquired a taste for poutine.
My dilemma is that I don’t know how long it will take to reach full recovery and be able to take on full-time work again. That makes it difficult to set a more precise fundraising goal. Every little bit helps….it all adds up. If you can help out, I would greatly appreciate it. If you cannot, please share my campaign with your circle of friends.
I will continue to post health updates on Instagram and Facebook as things progress.
Sincere Thanks!
Darin
