Help Lucy Go to College

Donation protected

UPDATE 8/12/20: WE REACHED OUR GOAL!!! Thank you SO much to everyone who donated, we are sending Lucy to college!! For those who didn’t get the chance to donate but still want to help Lucy, we will keep this fundraiser up for a few more days. All donations past our goal will be designated as Lucy’s spending money. Since she spent all of her savings on visa, plane, and accommodation fees, she has very little money for basic necessities. Lucy plans on finding a job when her two week quarantine is over, but this extra money will allow her to relax a bit once she first arrives. Thank you again to everyone who donated and shared, it means the world!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I first met Lucy Mawusi Adowah during the summer of 2017 when I traveled to Ghana to volunteer. We reunited in 2018 when I returned to Ghana, and we have stayed in touch ever since. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her better over these past three years. Lucy is a very determined, loving, and caring person. Not only has she completed her first degree in Biological Sciences Education with Microbiology as her major area, but she also holds a Community Health Nursing certificate where she takes care of pregnant women, treats minor illnesses and teaches nursing students. She is one of the most hardworking people I know and has worked her butt off to get to where she is today. At 35 years old, she has an amazing opportunity to leave her country, Ghana, for the first time ever to attend National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan for her master’s degree in Molecular Biology, something she has been saving up for for 4 years now.
Along with the help of others, Lucy has been able to gather up enough money for her plane ticket, visa, and accommodation fee. However, due to COVID-19, Taiwan has ordered mandatory two-week quarantine for international travellers with a fee of $2000, which provides temporary accommodation, food, and testing and observation. Lucy has been out of work since the start of the pandemic and thus has been unable to work to pay this fee. This is the only thing holding her back and if she does not raise enough money by August 27th, she will have to let go of her dream.
During my time in Ghana, Lucy was like a second mom to me; assisting me in my volunteer work, supporting me when I became homesick, and even nursing me back to health when I became ill. I know that other volunteers would say the same about her. She is the most deserving person of this opportunity and we really want to make this possible for her. Please consider donating!
