On April 21, 2012, Jamie was diagnosed with a mass in his brain that was later determined to be Glioblastoma mulitforme (Stage IV brain cancer). His first of three craniotomies was three days later and our lives were changed forever. I’m not going to emphasize the difficult journey that we had been chosen to make; we struggled through just as any other family would.
Jamie passed on December 10th at 12:55. I was alone with him in his private room at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, but I won’t spend my time thinking any longer about that difficult journey. Instead, I will be thoughtful of the love and care of all of the people who have touched our lives along the way. Many times I had gone to that place in my mind to ask “why”, of which there is no answer. But maybe, just a part of it could be that we need to see sadness to truly see and understand kindness and love. Through all the struggles, we were blessed with so much kindness and care shown to us by so many people. And you, friends, have shown us the most amazing gift: the kindness of people, most of whom I have never met.
During this journey, I have sat quietly many days fearful of the future, understanding Jamie’s prognosis and realizing that there will be a new journey that I will continue alone with our children. I am no longer afraid. You (each and every one of you) have touched our lives and shown us that we are NOT alone. Kindness and generosity has surrounded us. The monetary gifts from you, the staff at JetBlue and the many others that have heard about our loss, will go a long way to help with our children’s’ future. We have been blessed by your kindness, support and generosity. Thank you seems so little at this time, but know in my heart how grateful I and my children are.

James Alois Haas, of Olyphant, died Wednesday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Lynn (nee Yablonsky) Haas. Born in Santa Monica, California, on May 14, 1964, son of Professor James Anthony and Judie Sullivan Haas, Glenburn, he attended Abington schools and was a 1983 graduate of St. Francis Prep, Spring Grove. He received his B.S. degree from King's College, Wilkes-Barre, in 1987.
Jamie was a pilot for JetBlue Airways. He had a love of flying and a love of nature. He touched the lives of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Jamie was a grandson of the late Dr. Alois Thomas Haas and Helen Elizabeth Walsh Haas, Missoula, Montana, and Anguila, West Indies. He was also a grandson of the late Thomas Handy Sullivan and Ottilie Josephine Sullivan, Springfield, Illinois.
Surviving are two dear children, Kevin and Katherine; sister, Anne Elizabeth and husband, Gary Moore, Baltimore, Maryland, and children, Lucia, James, Thomas, and Christopher; brothers, Andrew, of Mayfield; Jonathan, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Robert, of Wilkes-Barre; an uncle, Richard Sullivan, of Springfield, Illinois; an aunt, Dolores Haas Larsen, of Haleiwa, Hawaii, and several cousins.
