J. Stacey Sullivan Fund
As some of you know, our dad, Stacey Sullivan, broke his hip the day after Christmas, 2018. Since then he’s had a few hospitalizations and declined in health. He’s remarkably philosophical about it all, and when he’s able to be out about town with his walker and children, he greets every dog he sees. He stays current with the news of the day, and expresses his gratitude for the staff at St Paul’s Villa, his doctors, and to anyone who shares some time with him.
But he has required an increasing level of care, and has now exhausted his resources. He has a large outstanding balance at his care facility that neither he nor his kids can cover. He is a WWII vet and is on a waiting list for the VA Home, but that could be as much as a year out from now.
Dad has long loved San Diego, and in his younger years he tried to serve his city well: bringing the Chargers to town in the 1960s, serving on the committee that desegregated the San Diego City Schools; as President of the Board at the Old Globe Theatre he helped lead the effort to create the Soviet Arts Festival in 1989, bringing a leading theatre company, artists, and art treasures to the city. Queen Elizabeth II visited the Old Globe in 1983, and Dad was instrumental in that as well. And when both the main theatre and then the Festival Stage burned, he was there to help the theatre rebuild.
Any funds raised through this GoFundMe go directly to pay down the balance at the facility that has been his home for over a year, and where he would like to stay as long as it is possible. Any support you can offer would mean so much to him, and to all of his kids — and to his dog Gibbs, who can no longer live with him but comes to visit once a week, since the Villa allows doggie visitors.
Thank you!
