Izzy's Long Road To Recovery

Donation protected

On July 21st 2021, My father Israel "Izzy" Montanez had a normal day at work, and was taking his normal route coming home and had just got off work at 4:30pm and at 4:36pm his life changed tragically forever.....Izzy was struck from behind and pushed head on into oncoming traffic where he hit another car head on. He was trapped and mangled in his truck and had to be air lifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Trauma Center where he remains in the ICU in a coma. Izzy's suffered so many broken bones to even list; his whole right side from his shoulder to his foot is shattered, his left leg, as well as both arms are broken, hips, pelvic, femur, and all of his ribs are broken which caused internal bleeding and a laceration of his liver. Since then everyday he's endured at least one surgery or two to get him put back together, but it also has been very traumatic on his body and although he is fighting hard it's taking a toll on him. Last week it seemed all we had were set backs for him and it was still looking very grave. Finally on Sunday, August 1st he awoke from his coma and finally opened his eyes with some positive response. He's continuing to undergo surgery daily as long as he is stable and his body is able to handle it. This whole experience has been life changing and overwhelming and now that we finally had some time to take it in we are overwhelmed and forced with all these questions and most importantly the care we need to give and provide to our father and husband for his recovery and new way of life for all of us.

If you knew my father you would know what a big heart and how kind and generous he is. He loves life, loves to be active, loves family time, works out, has an active lifestyle, loves barbecuing with some great tunes jamming and his glass of wine in hand. He's always the one to encourage you or anyone around him, especially his football families from Napa to San Jose. He's such a motivational and positive person for our family and all those that know him. Now it's our turn to take care of him and motivate and encourage him to be positive through this tragedy. If anybody can overcome this its my dad but he will need all our help and support moving forward.

We are setting up this account because my dad was the head of our house hold and now we are going to be forced to cover the medical bills, cost of medical equipment, mobility equipment, lots of physical therapy and rehabilitation to get him home and face the many obstacles to come. We now need to make our home ADA accessible for him and also consider a vehicle to transport him around.

We appreciate all the love, outpouring support, and prayers. We've been overwhelmed with all the personal messages, calls and text's that it's been so comforting to see the impact that my dad has had on everybody. Everybody has asked how they can help or what they can do and we finally agreed as a family that it is best to open this GoFundMe account for him.

Thank you for the continued love, support and prayers. Please keep them coming for his road to recovery.

-Lisa, Klarisa and Diego.
