For those of you who may not know me, my name is Izzy Andrus and I am a junior at Wayland High School in Massachusetts. I am fundraising for a  volunteer program that I applied  to and was accepted.  With this program I will providing health services in underserved villages around San Ignacio in the Cayo district of Belize. While in Belize I will be working alongside doctors, pre-med students and other high school students from around the world who aspire to work in the medical field.  For me, this experience is more than a trip or just something to put on a resume. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a nurse and this opportunity will allow me to gain valuable experience in working towards that goal. I hope to one day either be a pediatric oncology nurse or a Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) nurse. Volunteering in Belize will help me gain real life skills while also helping me to develop a greater worldview. I will be able to help an underserved community and most importantly support greater health outcomes by vaccinating and providing health education to children in the community. Global Public Service Academies (GPSA) is the program that is making this trip possible, but in order for me to go I need your help; I have to fund raise $5,000.00 by the end of June 2019 to participate in this program. The money that I raise will go towards supporting this program, training volunteers and my placement. The money will also be used to provide various medical supplies, such as vaccines and medical equipment.
