Izzy Rey our Warrior Princess needs our help, love, prayers, and support.
During the week of January 17- Izzy had a fever that progressively got worse. On January 19 Izzy was taken to the emergency room with full body weakness and loss of functional speech. Through bloodwork, urine, Ultrasound, cat scans and many other tests, it was determined that Izzy had a MRSA blood infection, and had sepsis due to that infection. She was transferred to the children’s hospital in Hershey Pennsylvania. Once entering the emergency department with additional tests and interventions it was determined that she needed specialized care and was transferred to the PICU department. Izzy was intubated and sedated. At that point she was given an ECHO, MRI, cat Scan and X-Rays. It was the found that the MRSA infected emboli ruptured and attached to her heart, a kidney, her spleen and into her brain. It was also found that the bacteria is on her clavicle and she has sepsis arthritis in that joint.
Multiple x-rays, CAT scans and MRIs have been done to determine if there is a source of this infection. One has not been located to date.
Since being admitted into the hospital, Izzy has undergone two surgeries, 3 MRIs and numerous x-rays and CAT scans.
Izzy has been in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks and will most likely be in the hospital for a minimum of three weeks clearing the infection from her organs and bones. After being discharged from the hospital, Izzy will then be transferred to a pediatric inpatient rehabilitation center to work on gross and fine motor skills as well as speech and language that was lost due to the bacteria in her brain.
After she graduates from inpatient rehab, Izzy will have multiple doctor appointments to follow her progress as well as making sure the MRSA is cleared from her body.
Today, Thursday February 1st Izzy suffered a seizure. It was determined she needed surgery on her brain to relieve pressure. Izzy has a long road ahead of her and a tough fight. She is the strongest bravest girl we know.
Currently Kelly is staying with Izzy and is out on FMLA leave from work. Pete is holding down the home front, visiting Izzy, and being a rock for the boys.
It takes a village to care for a child, and right now The Rivera’s are in need of their village. Please keep Izzy, Kelly, Pete, Tobias, and Tristan in your heart, thoughts, and prayers.
