Lyndsey's battle with Chronic Lyme

Donation protected
Lyndsey was a beautiful, normal child until she was 12 years old.  Then her knees began hurting when she played soccer, and she had fainting spells and chest pains.  The seemingly unrelated symptoms piled up throughout her teenage years and early 20’s – thyroid problems, chronic fatigue, memory issues, joint and muscle pain, anxiety and depression, an immune system completely out of balance, and, most recently, an ongoing battle with the dangerous bacterial infection MRSA.  Up until now, all the doctors and specialists have been completely baffled, and the medical treatment they prescribe has had very little effect. Sadly, Lyndsey can do very little beyond coping with her illness.  She has had to drop out of college, usually is too sick to participate in family functions or go out with friends, and is not well enough live on her own, away from the help and care of family.

Anyone who has had the privilege to know Lyndsey can tell you what a sweet, caring and sensitive soul she is, and it has been heartbreaking to watch her struggle with this illness for so long. She blesses us everyday with her bravery and her beautiful smile as she tries to get through the day and yet continues to show her thoughtfulness and empathy toward others. One of the hardest things about Lyme is that it is invisible, meaning, you can look so normal on the outside, yet be so ravaged on the inside. Lyndsey can go out and have a nice visit for a few hours with friends and look and act very normal, but afterwards she’s so exhausted it takes days to recover. Likewise, she can make herself a meal and then has to sleep for an hour before she has the energy to clean up the kitchen. The effects of the Lyme don’t allow her to hold down a job, continue her art education or even function normally on an everyday basis.

Recently we have heard about a new approach to Chronic Lyme that is having great success and we finally have hope that Lyndsey can get well. Unfortunately, since Chronic Lyme Disease is not yet on the list of diagnoses that many insurance companies recognize, its treatment is not covered, and the estimated cost we have been given for this potentially life-changing combination of therapies is $19,000.

We are incredibly excited about the chance for Lyndsey to finally regain her health, but there is no way for us to pay for this treatment on our own.  Please consider investing in the life of a young woman with great potential, and help her do more than just dream about pursuing a career in art, and having a family of her own.  Thank you!  Your love, prayers and generosity are greatly appreciated!
