Handicapped Orphans of Rach Gia Viet Nam
For the past several years I have been involved in mission trips to Viet Nam to an orphanage called TKTT (School for Handicapped Orphanage) in Rach Gia. There are currently 110 handicapped children at the orphanage in Rach Gia.
I was born and raised in Rach Gia Viet Nam and left the country in 1977. Starting in 2001 and ongoing, I accompanied a ReSurge volunteer surgical team to Rach Gia to provide free reconstructive surgery care to children and adults with deformities such as cleft palates or lips, burns and other injuries each year. These teams included volunteer plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, operating room and recovery room nurses, as well as coordinator/translators(my role) who provide general patient, family and team support.
While on the mission, I became acquainted with a few local people who showed me around the area. As we were passing by this poor old orphanage for handicapped children, I asked them if I could stop and visit the children. After meeting the children with all the needs, my family and I, have been personally committed to providing them support ever since.
In February of 2015 I will again travel to Rach Gia to visit my father along with a few family members. During each trip we try to do one project at a time. This coming February 2015 we have decided to help repair the boys and girls bathrooms before the next monsoon season comes. During the monsoon (from May to November), downpours are expected to happen nearly every afternoon, resulting in home flooding around the area which is the bathroom, and the walkway leading to the entrance which have worsened over the years and the children struggle trying to cope with the flooding.
We have determined the immediate need is to rebuild the boys and girls bathrooms:
10 electric fans for each classroom
I am hosting a fundraiser to raise at least $3500. Any dollars over and above the amount required to pay for the bathroom fixtures and repair will go to provide blankets and bedding materials and fans for the classrooms.
I am looking for volunteers/sponsors/supporters to join me and my family to help provide a better quality of life for the children in the Rach Gia orphanage in Vietnam.
Please join me in lending a hand/contribute or become a sponsor/support this project that aims to effect a positive change for the orphanage.
