My son Izaak Rey & 2 of his friends were in a horrible car accident on Sunday, November 24 at 5 in the morning. Izaak was life flighted to Hermann Memorial Medical Center to the emergency room. After having to search for him in every hospital and jail within a 400 mile radius I was told I needed to get to the Hospital as quickly as i could. When i arrived my son was in ICU shock trauma unit, which is one of the worst wings in the Hospital and the nurse began to give me a run down of all the injuries he sustained. He had already had 1 procedure done when he was life flighted an emergency surgery is what i was told. So the charge nurse began preparing me by listing off his injuries and telling me that there were so many broken bones his first surgery was just to make sure his right femur and pelvis stayed in place. The list included 6 broke ribs, cardiac blunt force trama, his heart was only functioning at 25% however his heart rate was to beating 143 beats way above what a normal heart his age would, he had a blood clit on his R lung, a sm punture wound on his L lung, his stomach was full of blood, he had blood in his urine, bood in his lungs, they had already given him 3 blood transfusions because he had so much trauma to his body, his pelvis was broken into so many pieces the Ortho Dr stated he had never seen so much trauma to a pelvis before(mind u these Dr's are top of the line some of the best), his R arm elbow&shoulder bone was broken, both L&R femurs were shattered, both L&R ankels were shattered with barely any skin on the bottom of both ankels, the bones that hold the legs to the pelvis bone were both broke, and he had lost almost all of his blood. They knew there would be infections, possible internal bleeding, and at that point they did not know if there would be any brain damage because he had so much trauma that they could not see how he wouldn't. Fortunately he did not have any injuries to his head or spine. They had to resuscitate my son 2 times before reaching the hospital & 1 time at the E.R. and he was listed as a John Doe because he left his wallet at home. So i had to search for my son after hearing from someone who heard from someone he was in a wreck and 1 of the individuals didn't make it. That young man that passed was only 18 yrs old, the only boy of 5, and the youngest in the family. The young man that was driving had been drinking amongst other things. Thank God it was a 1 vehicle accident. They were all very close friends, went fishing together, hung out all the time, and had their entire lives ahead of them. Izaak has a long road ahead of him, this week he has a surgery almost everyday of the week and those surgeries were the least damaged. He will have more surgeries including plastic surgery to try and make the 2 ankels look as normal as possible, plus make them feel as normal as possible. The plastic surgeon said that he will have to have multiple surgeries to his ankels because he lost almost all of his tissue in both ankels, he was lucky there was no vessel damage or worse. The vehicle he was the passenger in had no insurance and izaak had no insurance(i tried to tell him to get insurance but im just mom what do i know)!! He will have a ton if bills and they have already started coming in. Me and my daughter are having to travel back and forth frm Baytown to Houston, plus pay for parking(which usually is right at $20) and food if we get hungry. I found out yesterday from the therapist he will hve to hve a hospital bed, a walker, a wheelchair, and those are just some if the thibgs he is going to need fir his recovery. I thank God everyday for my son, i oray for Chris's family and hope they find some peace, i also pray fir Josh's healing and quick recovery. My son is a fighter and he knows what lies ahead of him. But i am trying to get things taken care of for him so his burden isn't so heavy. Anything you can help with would be a blessing and we appreciate it more then you know. Thank you in advance and keep our family especially Izaak in your prayers. Lord knows we need those more then anything else..(if you can please share this, tell the next person to share this and maybe just maybe we can be lucky enough to take some if the burden off of my son)Thank You.
