Fundraiser Update – IWDG Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary Day

On 7 June, we celebrated 35 years since Ireland was declared Europe’s first Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary through our first IWDG Sanctuary Day.

As part of World Ocean Week, Sanctuary Day helped raise awareness of whales, dolphins and porpoises in Irish waters and highlighted the importance of research, monitoring, conservation, and public participation.

Over the past 35 years, the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) has developed a strong evidence base on cetaceans in Irish waters through long-term monitoring, sightings schemes, strandings response, research, education, and citizen science.

Thanks to your incredible support!

We are keeping the fundraiser open to help us reach our target and continue supporting:
  • Cetacean monitoring and recording
  • Long-term research and datasets
  • Citizen science programmes
  • Evidence-based conservation and policy work
  • Public awareness and education initiatives

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the campaign, reported sightings, and supported Sanctuary Day so far, we truly appreciate it.

If you would still like to support the campaign, every contribution helps.
