Hard-working and committed to his family and the community, those are just some of the words used to describe Atlanta City Councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr. The four-term city councilman from west Atlanta loved his neighborhood and city till the end. Young died Friday, November 16 from cancer, but always remained engaged in city affairs while battling his illness.

Ivory's wife Shalise Young has been left with extraordinary expenses and this has caused financial hardship for the family. Ivory spent months in the hospital, mostly in intensive care. To battle his cancer, he also went through a stem cell transplant to combat the disease before his death.  The money raised will go to help relive the burden of extraordinary personal expenses incurred as a result of Ivory Lee Young’s extended hospitalization.

Brock Built Homes would like to help Shalise with the expenses, by setting up this GoFundMe page for her and the Young family. Our hope is to raise $80,000 to help the family with these daunting bills. Please consider donating to this GoFundMe page, and please help us get the word out, by sharing this page on your Facebook Timeline.

Ivory Young was first elected to Atlanta city council in 2001 and won his fourth term in 2017. He served on numerous council committees, most recently on the city utilities and community/human services committee. He helped to shepherd redevelopment efforts throughout the Westside and played a pivotal role in the construction of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. His dedication to his council service and those who lived in his Westside district was summed up in an interview he gave to the AJC in 2017, "Young said he considered a highlight of his council tenure was the efforts in 2002 to help 160 families displaced by a sewer flood. Homes were rebuilt at no additional costs to their owners and renters were assisted with first and last month's rent to move anywhere they wanted. That was a big success to me," he said.

The Atlanta District 3 City Councilmember will be remembered during a memorial wake and Alpha Phi Alpha Omega service 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Greater Springfield Baptist Church located at 721 Jones Avenue NW. Then Saturday, December 1 at 11 a.m., a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on Morehouse College campus located at 830 Westview Drive SW. Pastor Tracy B. Wheeler, Sr. will eulogize the late councilmember.
