Iver's Educational Tour of Europe
Donation protected
If you were presented with the chance to travel the world and find yourself would you take it?
I have a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to take a historical tour of Europe with my engineering class and with your help I may be able to reach this goal. From visiting the remains of the Berlin Wall to exploring centuries-old Cathedrals, this is a unique opportunity for me to learn about other cultures and form lifelong memories. I’ll be able to experience firsthand the places where key historical events happened and really get a sense of the cultural and geographical context surrounding those events. Beyond that, however, I believe this trip will also provide me a chance to broaden my cultural understanding and communication skills.
This opportunity is something I would hate to let pass me by. Would you be willing to help me raise the funds I need to make this dream a reality? Details about the cost are listed below. Thank you for stopping by and listening!
Where will we be going?
We will be visiting 4 countries: Germany, The Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary. Inside of those countries I will be going to Berlin, Prague, Kraków, and Budapest.
In Germany, we will visit Berlin and see a wide range of historical sites, including:
- The Brandenburg Gate: An 18th century monument that was ordered to be built by the Prussian King Fredrick William II to symbolize the Berlin and German division during the Cold War. It is now a symbol for peace and unity.
- The Berlin Wall: Now covered in graffiti, the Berlin Wall was built during the Cold War to keep western “fascists” from entering eastern Germany.
In The Czech Republic, we will head to the capital, Prague. Our stops there will include:
- St. Vitus Cathedral: The largest and most important cathedral in all Prague.
- Golden Lane: A 16th century town built to hold Rudolf II’s castle guards.
There are two major locations we will visit in Poland, both in Kraków:
- Wawel Hill and Glowny Square: Wawel hill is the very first UNESCO world heritage site in the world.
- The Auschwitz-Birkenau holocaust memorial and museum: Here we will learn about the experiences of the victims of the holocaust and put ourselves in the shoes of those who were imprisoned in concentration camps.
Lastly, in Hungary we will make our way to the city of Budapest, where we will get to visit:
- The Fisherman's Bastion: One of the best known monuments in Budapest built to celebrate the 1000th birthday of the Hungarian state
- Heroe’s Square: One of the major squares known for its statues of the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars (some of the original settlers from the 9th centry that migrated to what is now Hungary)
The total cost of this trip is $3965. That amount will cover:
- Airfare
- Transportation on location
- Hotels
- Meals (Breakfast and dinner)
- Tour guides
- Daily activities, tours, entrance to attraction, etc.
NOTE: Because I'm a minor, my father (John Erickson) will manage the donations for me and route them to my account so that I can access them for the trip.
