Ivan H. Memorial Fund

Ivan Holmes was a 12 year-old, sixth grade student at KIPP Leadership Academy in New Orleans, LA who sadly passed away on June 12th, 2018 due to medical complications. His boisterous salutations and lively playfulness brought joy to all. While small in stature, he walked down the hall carrying the boldness of someone who stood six feet tall.  You could often hear him before you saw him, as he turned corners with the stature of a giant. Our fondest memories include Ivan swelling with pride at receiving words of affirmation and encouragement from a job well done in the classroom. His smile would light up the room, and he immediately looked towards the next opportunity to excel. He lived each day courageously, boldly, and with love.  His warm and excited greetings expressed a deep-seated joy and enthusiasm to learn and to be a part of the KIPP Leadership Family. Many teachers described him as their “favorite” because he brought out a love and laughter from each and every person he encountered. While only 12 years old, he led the way in his classroom and across our campus. Ivan was the prototype for illustrating that it is “cool to be kind.”  So much so, that he earned the coveted Leader of the Month Award for influencing others, showing his teammates how to deescalate tense situations, and demonstrating respect even in the face of frustration. With heavy hearts we are asking for monetary support from our families, friends of KIPP Leadership Academy and the larger community. Please join us in providing a farewell for our departed angel to honor his life and remember all of the joy and happiness Ivan brought to our lives each and every day.  Pending the final arrangements, the services will be held next week. We are asking for all donations to be given by Monday, June 18th.  Donations will be managed and dispersed by KLA's Director of Student Support, Laura Romanosky.  Please contact her directly with questions.
