Itty Bitty Needs Help

Itty Bitty is a 6 lb, 4-year-old Chihuahua mix lovebug, and he’s lived his short life in a lot of pain, through no fault of his own.  Three years ago, Itty Bitty’s owner found himself homeless and living on the streets in a small town in Oregon.  He always kept the little dog with him, ​as Itty Bitty loved him unconditionally​, staying by his side through it all, with a wagging tail or kiss to share with the only family he’d known.  However, while struggling to make it on the streets, a large dog attacked Itty Bitty, biting down hard on his face and breaking his jaw. The owner immediately took the love of his life to a vet but was unable to pay for the surgery to repair the damage and left the office with a week’s worth of pain meds and a broken jaw.

Fast forward three years, ​when this past December, just days before Christmas, the man was picked up on the highway, once again in trouble with the law, Itty Bitty by his side.  The arresting officer took the sweet little pup to the local shelter where he'd be safe and warm until other arrangements could be made.

The volunteers at the shelter quickly fell in love with this cuddler but knew there was something wrong when they noticed swelling around his mouth, and he refused to eat dry kibble, and only gingerly ate some wet food if they hand fed him.  He was underweight, and in obvious pain when he tried to eat or drink.  Knowing the owner would be incarcerated for an indefinite amount of time, a family member stepped forward, driving two hours to come take Itty Bitty into their home.

Itty Bitty is safe in his new forever home and will always have a warm bed and roof over his head, but now it's time to get him living a pain-free life.  

The new owners’ hearts are big, but their bank account is not.  Thanks to a Good Samaritan, Itty Bitty was immediately examined by a specialist.

Sadly, because 3 years have passed since the attack, for Itty Bitty to finally be free of pain, the only humane option is a full mandibular repair, taking bone matter from Itty Bitty's tiny hip, reconstructing both sides of his jaw, and implanting a steel plate.  The total cost is $6,500.00,  including estimated follow up care.  The surgery date is set, and funds are needed immediately.

Itty Bitty has touched the heart of every single person he's met:   the shelter volunteers,  animal control officer who brought him in,  medical professionals, and his new forever family.  We are all so grateful for whatever help you can give to this cherished little dog.  No gift is too small.   With gratitude, Itty Bitty and all who love him.
