"It's all in your head"... "Just get over it"... "Try and be happy"... These are things people with mental health issues hear every day. During junior year of high school, I (Elad) was diagnosed with depression and many other mental health issues. I didn't speak up about it much because he feared I was going to be judged and was told to "get over it". Then I was hospitalized for ten days with intense therapy. While in the hospital, I met so many people going through the same thing as me. They all feared being judged and didn't have a space to talk about it.
After I got out of the hospital, I realized that society looks down upon people with mental health issues and don't really know how mental health issues affect people. I knew something had to change. This is where I came up with this idea to end the stigma people with mental health issues get.
This film will interview people with mental health issues, professionals such as therapists and psychiatrists, and researchers that have studied mental health, and work to explain and end the stigma people with mental health issues get. Mental health knows no race, gender, location, or anything else. Anyone can have it.
With your generous donations, we will be able to fully produce our film. Making this film is expensive as the bare minimum we need to produce this film is $15,000. The costs will cover camera equipment, audio equipment, studios, and so much more. Any more will be greatly appreciated as we can use the money to make a better film, create a better platform to help people with mental health issues, and donate more money to mental health organizations. But we will not be able to do this without reaching our goal of $15,000. All of the money that is raised will go towards the project.
The time is now to start talking about mental health. Too many people have lost their lives to mental health issues and we believe that through this film and photography project, we will be able to help end the stigma people with mental health get and raise money for mental health organizations.
Risks and challenges
If we reach our goal we will be able to fully film and edit this film and photography project and have the premier that we are looking to premiere during May 2019. However, if we don't reach our goal we will not be able to get the equipment we need and even be able to film this project.
