It's the most wonderful time of the year ... TO GIVE!
For some people when you think of Christmas you think of mince pies, mulled wine, hot chocolate, gifts and decorations and I'm sure many other things! This year I'm sure will be no different even under the current circumstances, and I'm sure most of you have already started purchasing your Christmas decorations and daring to think shall we put the tree up early this year!
Unfortunately for some people this can't be a thought as other priorities come first and this is the case at Holly Hill Church Primary School in Frankley, Northfield. The school is in a deprived area of Birmingham and has 61% of their pupils needing free school meals.
Every year the school receives donations of presents from the Selly Oak Methodist Church for their most vulnerable children to help at Christmas, which due to the current situation the church are unable to help with the toy scheme. They also had an appeal to help fund a real Christmas tree as most of the children in the school have never experienced a real tree. I'm sure most people look forward to their annual trip picking up their fresh Christmas tree - I sure do! The West Brom have now kindly donated an 8ft Christmas Tree which is amazing for them, but the school are still in need of decorations for the tree and the school, as well as toys for their most vulnerable children.
When I think of Christmas I think that it is a magical time, so I'm reaching out to everyone to support Holly Hill Primary school with their mission to make Christmas as magical as they can for the children this year.
As the area is close to home I will be collecting any donations that anyone can give over the next few weeks to pass on to the school in readiness for December. With the help of Neil Noakes we are also looking at putting donation boxes out in head office if anyone would like to contribute with Christmas decorations or towards the toy scheme (toys can be new or second hand in good condition). If you do have any spare Christmas decorations at home, because like me you have purchased new ones for this year, please please think about donating them to this cause. The school will be so grateful for any help.
