It’s really hard for me to ask for help…

Recently, life has taken an unbelievable and unexpected turn for me. Over the past summer months I was experiencing what I thought was severe IBS symptoms due to chronic stress. On August 1st I had a colonoscopy which showed a large tumour in my colon. A CT scan and ultrasound the following weeks revealed another issue, a large (16x12x12cm) cyst on my left ovary. On September 11th I had surgery to remove the tumour, my left ovary and both fallopian tubes. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I’m healing and recovering from the surgery well. This Thursday September 21st, I had over 20 staples removed from my abdomen and my final pathology reviewed. Thankfully the ovarian cyst was benign, but unfortunately I’ve been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. It’s aggressive and has spread to my surrounding lymph nodes. All I know now is I’ll be in contact with oncologists from the cancer clinic next week, and they’ll be acting quickly. I will need more tests, another CT scan, possibly more surgeries and intensive chemotherapy.

Needless to say I’m feeling all the feelings. I’m in total shock, denial and have never been so scared for my life. I am young, strong and otherwise healthy.

In addition to your love and prayers, I need financial support to help with my monthly expenses for food, bills, etc. I’ve been on a medical leave from work since August and on EI which has greatly reduced my income. I have no extended benefits through work and I’ve already spent close to $500 on medications and blood thinners which I self inject daily. I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to work, or what my future holds, but I’m trying to keep Jaspers life and daily routine as normal as possible. He knows ‘mom isn’t well’ but I WILL get better! He’s the true love of my life and the reason I have such a strong will to live. I need him, and he needs me.
